Lepakshi is the legendary name of a small village where the Vijayanagar kings built the unique Nandi , Nagalinga and Veerabhadra Swamy temple, in the early 16th century . The temple , known for its brilliant architecture and grandeur , houses one of the largert monolithic Nandis in the country. Legend has it that Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married at the same spot where the existing Kalyana Mandapam of the temple stands. The temple is famous for its beautiful paintings drawn on the ceilings of the Ardhamandapa and Natyamandapa , depicting Saivaite themes.
